Once, a camel and a jackal lived together. They were friends. The jackal had heard that there were many fields of melons on the other bank of river. One day, he asked the camel to take him, across the river on his back. The camel agreed and he sat on his back. They reached the other bank. They entered the melon fields and ate melons to their fill. When they were coming out of the fields the jackal began to howl. The camel was surprised. The jackal told him that it was his habit to howl after eating melons. Hearing the noise the owner of the field rushed with stick. The jackal escaped into the bushes. The owner began to beat the camel severely. The jackal appeared from behind the bushes, as the camel reached the bank of the river. He let the jackal ride on his back. As, the camel entered the river and sat down when reached the middle of the river. The jackal began to drown, He cried, “what are you doing? The camel said, “It is his habit to take a bath after eating melons” the naughty jackal begged for mercy. He apologized for what he had done. The camel accepted his sorry and stood up. Both friends reached the bank safely.
